Learned this over at Pumb, by using sms2csv which allows users to backup Treo 650 sms messages into csv file and can be viewed by Excel.
1. Download the latest version 0.4 and run the sms2csv.exe, one downside is it doesn’t has a GUI so you need to execute at command prompt.

2. Go to your palm backup folder (for PC, it is C:\Program Files\palmOne\your username\Backup) and look for Messages_Database.PDB

3. Copy Messages_Database.PDB and paste it into the same directory where your sms2csv.exe is, run command prompt and key in code sms2csv “Messages Database.pdb” > messages.csv, the csv file will be generated in the same directory of where the sms2csv.exe is.

    Hi David,

The reason is you double click on the sms2csv directly. The program will exit immediately.

Go to “Start”->”Run”. Type “cmd” then enter, it will open up a command window. From there use “cd” to enter the folder where you put the sms2csv.exe.

Follow the rest steps to convert your sms.

So I put the sms2csv in a folder called sms on my desktop, I put the messages database in there too. At the Command Prompt I entered: Desktop\sms\sms2csv. The program ran I think, I got a lot of text and sample instruction about viewing the files according to -4 GMT etc. But I’m not entering this code the right way because the excel file never opens. Can someone please explain what to do from here or how to use a “cd” Thanks.

Here’s the step by step instructions for using DOS command line prompt. (Maybe too basic for old-timers and linuxers, but I guess you asked for exactly what to do). So, here goes…
The command line program runs in the DOS window. I would suggest that you copy the file Messages_Database.PDB also to the new folder of your desktop.
Then, as per Livy’s instructions - Go to “Start”->”Run”. Type “cmd” then enter, it will open up a command window.
In this command window, type exactly as follows, ignoring the quotes:
    “cd sms”
    – and press enter.

Now type exactly as follows, again ignoring the quotes:
    “sms2cv.exe Messages_Database.PDB messages.csv”
    – then press “Enter”
You should get the file messages.csv in your sms folder on the desktop, in the .csv format that you wanted. Now, you can go ahead and explore the readme file included in the program to use the advanced command line switches like -g, -y and -c to
    customise your output.
    All the best..
